Stepping into Quicksilver
9 - 26 August 2006
Nor … has he ceased
to exist; he has simply stepped into the quicksilver of a mirror as we
all must…
To every one we turn a different face of the prism.
Laurence Durrell, 1962
Lawrence Durrell’s poetic figuration is one side of the prism that
underlies this body of work. Some might recognise the presence of the
artists that form another. The early application of photography to scientific
theories on race, physiognomy and emotion are also a significant interest
and were a starting point — alarmingly these pseudo scientific theories
have renewed currency today.
