The six gouaches are merely a few of the numerous works that Juris has completed outdoors recording and responding to the south west coast’s environment. As to the canvases, reviewers have categorised Juris’ works on canvas as gestural abstraction. However, no one can doubt that the works have evolved from his forays into his local landscape with easel and paint. His observations of features or ocean forms has now given Juris’ work an essence that alludes to the organic construct rather than the embroidery of landscape.
