Louise Hall's forthcoming works on paper exhibition "Ponder", spans the past 10 years. Hall has consistently produced work in this medium since the late 1980's, having discovered it as a painter's truest travel companion; compact, clean, easy to store and carry. She has remained true to the medium, its enquiry continues to engage her curiosity. Hall seeks to reflect but not mirror nature. The work tells a story of beauty and engages with color on a deeply emotional level. Hall symbolizes personal secrets and has sought to create ambiguity. The viewer with a curiosity for water is transported to a place of their dreams. Significantly, Hall exhibits the work titled "Parabola" for the first time; an oversized work painted on the hand made Spanish paper Marat, measuring 2 x 2 metres. In the most recent works, she jumbles words but makes her point clear, by including incised text to the papers surface. Hall seduces you and tricks you into wanting to believe the bubble like rings could only have been painted by stencil and not by human hand or eye alone. Her work calls you to dreams of nature, lichen, dark moody skies or deep beneath the ocean where only a shaft of light enters a cavern and lets you ponder a great life force. "Ponder" is
an opportunity to witness an artist's sophisticated enquiries into water
based mediums. The paintings reflect both the mood of the given time and
highlights and variations of the last decades work; ultimately the paintings
share a similar floating sense to pondering.
