Artists A-Z
  Jacqui Stockdale
Shooting the Picturesque

9 March - 3 April 2004

Jacqui Stockdale has a reputation as an award winning portrait painter. In her most recent work she has
pushed past the limits of portraiture, referencing artists like Velasquez, Frida Kahlo and Sydney Nolan,
whose works feature heavily in “Shooting the Picturesque”.

Inspired by late 19th century anthropological photographs, Stockdale has replaced the anonymous sitter
in a contrived, studio landscape, borrowing friends and family members to re-interpret scenes that appear in famous words like Nolan’s The Bushranger, or Frida Kahlo’s The Deer.

Stockdale’s quick fire thoughts grasp at the infinite possibilities that art and history can provide. Her work is poignant and ironic and will guarantee to deliver a quirky show with a real difference.
